Paul / Saul Poster

Today in R.E we made posters about famous people who spread the word about Jesus. We all picked someone and I picked paul. A fact I liked about him was, that his Jewish name is saul I was born in Tarsus in Cilicia which is a Roman province in Asia Minor.
I liked learning about him because there was lots of things that I didn't know.

Water Cycle Explanation Writing

How does the Water Cycle Work

I am learning to inform my audience through an explanation
By Xavier P

When you go to get a drink of water you could be drinking water a dinosaur had a bath in millions of years ago. This is all because of the water cycle. A cycle is a series of steps that repeats itself over and over again. The earth's water is 97 percent salt water leaving 3 percent to be fresh water and of that fresh water 1 percent is drinkable. The water cycle has three main steps which are evaporation, condensation and precipitation.
One of the first stages of the water cycle is evaporation. There are lots of examples of evaporation like a kettle boiling. When the kettle boils you’ll see steam coming out the top. When you stop seeing that gas it has turned into water vapour. Evaporation with the water cycle follows the same process. However the sun is used as the heat source. The sun heats up the water so all the atoms are heating up and getting there boogie on, till they eventually turn to water vapour which floats up into the atmosphere and condenses.
The second stage of the water cycle is condensation. An example is on a hot day when the sun is shining you can often see on a can of coke with water droplets on the outside of the can, this is condensation. The cold can surface has connected with water vapour in the air, forcing the water to cool down and condense on the side of the can in the form of water droplets. When we look at condensation in the water cycle it is where the water vapor in the clouds cools down and turns back into water. The water in the cloud starts to bounce around and the water droplets connect together until they are too heavy and that leads us into precipitation.
Last but not least is Precipitation. Precipitation is the release of water from the sky, it can be liquid or solid, for example, rain, sleet, hail and snow. Rain begins when small droplets of water join together in the clouds until they become too heavy and gravity pulls them down to earth into a collection of water like a lake, ocean or river.
As you can see when all three of the stages in the water cycle evaporation, condensation and precipitation all join up they create the water cycle. After each stage has completed their process that is when the cycle is completed and it all starts over again in a never ending loop. That is how the earth still contains all the water there was since the beginning of time.

Cross Country

Good Shepherd School had been busy training for cross country this term and finally the day arrived.  In week 6 we all arrived at school in our running gear and had our house colours painted onto us. We were eager and ready to go and win house points.  Overall the race was long and required a lot of stamina, but we were prepared. Here are some pictures from our races.

Watercare

Water, water everywhere! On Friday of week 6, we were lucky to have Sally from Watercare come to teach us more about the water. We did a drama activity and experiments. Firstly we examined the process that water goes through to become drinkable water in our households. Our drama was based on the process that the water goes through to be cleaned. We were the water going through each stage. We had so much fun as we ventured around the school. Once we learnt how water is cleaned we then had to try and clean the dirty water ourselves. We had to create a filter system in partners. We had to do four different tests for our experiments. We experimented with a range of filters to try and test which filter system was the best.
